How to ship a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach

The Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa), also known as the Hissing Cockroach or simply Hisser, is one of the largest species of cockroach. They have become popular exotic pets because of the unique hissing sounds they produce. They reproduce quite easily and are also used as feeder items for other exotic pets like chameleon lizards and iguanas.

They are relatively easy to ship but there are some US states like Florida which require permits before this species can be kept as a pet or in breeding colonies so it is a good idea to check your destination first before sending the roaches out. Here are some tips on how to ship a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach.

How to ship a pet abroad

Shipping a live animal, especially a pet, is a difficult task. International shipping of pets usually involves air transportation which can be very stressful for both the animal and the worrisome owner. Each country also has its own rules and regulations regarding the entry of live animals in their territory. Some may deny your animal entry while others may require an extended quarantine period for the pet.

To make the task a little less bothersome, it is best to get the services of an international pet shipping company when moving pets overseas. These companies employ professional and experienced staff who know the international laws and regulations for animal shipping.  They will do the dirty tasks for you such as filing the appropriate papers and keeping your pet safe during travel.

How to ship a horse

Good horses don't come cheap. A recreational riding horse can cost anywhere from several hundred dollars to many thousands. The cost of caring for one is another story. When transporting live horses, the safety and comfort of the animals are of utmost importance especially if they are to attend shows or competitions. Making sure that they are in their best condition when they arrive in their destination can be quite expensive.

Aside from the costs involved, shipping a hose is also a tedious process for the uninitiated.  There are lots of paperwork to be done not to mention veterinary requirements that should be presented especially if the animal will be crossing state lines. For instance, you need to present a negative Coggins test (for Equine Infectious Anemia, or EIA) which have to be done within the last 6 to 12 months depending on the destination state's laws. Most states also require a health certificate, within 10 to 30 days, again depending on the state. Some states require a brand inspection or an entry permit.
