How to Ship Cabinets, Dressers and Armoires

Shipping large furniture pieces like chest of drawers, dressers and cabinets require proper packing to ensure that they are safe from damage during transport. It is best to disassemble big pieces like these before shipping to make them easier to handle as well as to save on space. Here are some tips on how to properly pack cabinets, dressers and armoires for shipping.

Disassemble the piece. Remove tops, bases, and shelving, if possible.

Wrap doors and shelving separately with bubble wrap. Place them in a shipping box with packing materials for padding.

If doors are fixed and cannot be detached, tape them shut so they will not swing open during transport.

Protect corners with pieces of cardboard and bubble wrap. These are the parts most prone to scratches, bumps and other damages.

All hardware that were removed during disassembly must be placed in clearly labeled plastic bags.

How to ship tables

A bulky furniture like a table needs to be properly packed for protection and ease of handling before shipping. Inspect the table and determine how it can be disassembled to make it as compact and possible.

Prepare the table for packing by apply wax to all wood surfaces to protect from scratching.

Carefully take the table apart and properly protect and package the legs and leaves with sufficient bubble wrap and/or moving pads.

How to ship furniture abroad

Shipping furniture internationally can get insanely expensive not to mention stressful. You have to make sure that each piece is packaged properly to prevent getting damaged during transit. Some people would rather buy new furniture than ship their old ones to their new destination and face all the hassles of shipping furniture abroad.

You can either ship furniture by white glove movers or as freight. White gloves movers are a lot more expensive but they will do all the dirty work for you, from packing the pieces to hauling them to the new destination. Using freight, on the other hand, is least expensive but you will be responsible for packaging, loading, and unloading your furniture.

Freight shipping can be by air or by sea. Airfreight is usually more expensive but can be more convenient especially if you are shipping small, fragile pieces.
